Common Reasons Why People Make Excuses

People often make excuses because:

  • They avoid taking responsibility.
  • They lack self-confidence.
  • They are not motivated to do what’s required.
  • They compare themselves to others.
  • They have limiting beliefs about who they are and what they are capable of.
  • They are afraid of doing the wrong thing or making mistakes.

Your excuses will prevent you from living your potential, which means you won’t become the person you know you can be.

5 Proven Excuses That Will Make Your Life Hard

Even though everyone makes excuses, there are excuses that have a greater negative impact. Here are five proven excuses that will make your life hard, which means you won’t achieve what you want, if you do not overcome them.

  1. Life is unfair or difficult. This excuse suggests you believe life is happening to you. Holding onto this excuse or belief will cause you to let external events or circumstances dictate what is possible for you.
  2. Now is not a good time. This excuse reveals you think everything has to be right or easy before you take on something new. There will never be a perfect time or the right time to take a risk.
  3. I don’t have the motivation. This means you don’t have a strong reason to do something. It also shows you lack commitment and the willingness to take action.
  4. I’ve already failed a lot, and it’s too late now. Everyone has experienced failure, some more than others. If you have a fear of failure, you will not fully commit to what you want. This excuse will cause you to give up on your dreams.
  5. I don’t have the resources others have. Resources can include money, support or technology. It’s never about the resources you lack — it’s whether you are resourceful or not.
