It is very likely that as the weeks go by this year, things will happen which will cause us to get sidetracked, lose focus and become overwhelmed or stressed.

With everyone living such busy lives, getting stressed or frustrated is not going to do us any good at all.

Being in a state of tension and stress not only reduces our ability to do our best work, it decreases our creativity plus we’re more inclined to focus on what’s not going well for us. Getting stressed puts us in a negative state and that’s when we’re more likely to attract more of the things we don’t want.

how to overcome stress

While there may be an infinite number of things that could be causing us stress, there are numerous things we can do to reduce or even eliminate stress. When we’re feeling good and have a positive vibe, it makes us more attractive plus others will be more likely to support us in what we’re trying to achieve.

Here are five things you can do to reduce stress so that you can focus on the things that are truly important to you.

1. Have a regular exercise routine. A build-up of stress usually means that energy in our body is stagnant and not flowing freely. By engaging in physical activity, we allow ourselves to take our focus off the things that are stressing us out and focus only on what we’re doing at the present moment.

Using our body regularly, whether it involves going for a walk, a swim, a jog or playing sports is a powerful way to reenergise and reconnect to the things that are important. Usually a healthy body is a sign of a healthy mind. The best part about this is it does not have to involve a great deal of time. 20 to 30 minutes a few times a week is a great way to stay in good physical shape.

2. Take time out. Stress is often a sign that we’re rundown and need to have a break. Working continuously is not a healthy practice and it can have some serious consequences, not just on our health but also affect other areas of our life. This is one of the reasons why taking a short break, even for a couple of days, every 90 days is a powerful way to recharge and get motivated again.

3. Spend time in nature. Have you noticed that nature has a calming influence on us? Whether it is going for a walk in nature, or walking along the beach, or just being outside, it allows us to get centred and be really connected with Earth. As we’re an integral part of nature, it makes a lot of sense to allocate time regularly to experience the wonder and beauty of nature.

4. Connect with people you are close to. Oftentimes, just talking about something that may be bothering us can be a simple way to release it or come up with solutions to overcome it. This is where having people you can confide in becomes quite important. If you don’t have people you can reach out to and share what is going on for you, find out where the type of people you’d like to meet hang out, and go out and start meeting people.

5. Consider all the positive things in your life. Being appreciative and grateful is a powerful way to put things into perspective. Most of our stresses aren’t life or death situations. Obviously there are exceptions to this like situations where someone may be suffering a terminal illness or been involved in a serious accident, however, in general, most of our stresses can be viewed from a different perspective. Our stresses will start to dissipate when we start being grateful for all the things we do have in our life.

Experiencing stress is something that is very normal, however it can become an issue if it lingers on for long periods of time. Eliminating or reducing stress doesn’t have to be something that requires a lot of time or is difficult to do. These ideas are a great starting point to overcome any stress you may be facing.
