When you apply things that support living an intentional life, you will have a higher level of clarity and live on your terms.

We all desire to have the freedom to live a life of purpose and meaning, and fulfil our dreams. That can only happen if you are intentional about the choices you make and how you live your life.

What Does Living an Intentional Life Mean?

Living an intentional life means designing the life you want. It means defining what you want your life to look like and having a plan to get there.

When you live an intentional life, you will:

  • Have a high level of self-awareness, which include you values, purpose or mission.
  • Make intelligent decisions based on where you want to be.
  • Know how you want to live your life.
  • Use your time wisely.
  • Not let failures or disappointments stop you from living the way you want to.

Living an intentional life means you have a vision of how you want your life to look like and a roadmap that will help you get there.

What Could Happen if You Do Not Live an Intentional Life?

If you do not live an intentional life, the risks include:

  • You may settle for a life you do not enjoy or want.
  • You will let events determine what you can or cannot do.
  • You will make poor decisions, which can cause you unneeded stress.
  • You won’t have clarity on your priorities.
  • You can easily get off course and drift in life.

The clearer you are about how you want to live, the greater the possibility you will create the life you want.

5 Things That Support Living an Intentional Life

Living an intentional life does not mean you live by a rigid routine. It’s about knowing what’s important and what’s not, and making decisions based on what you want and where you want to be.

Here are five things that support living an intentional life, which will allow you to create the freedom you want with ease and intelligence.

  1. Feed your mind by investing in yourself. You are your most important investment. When you invest in yourself, you will expand your mind and become aware of new possibilities. You will receive ideas on how you can create and live the life you want. Reading or listening to books or going through online training programs are simple ways to feed your mind.
  2. Have a mission that drives you. Life is bigger than you. If you have a big “why” in life, that will help guide your daily decisions. Your mission will give your life direction and will make it easier to set goals to keep you on track.
  3. Develop and learn to trust your intuition. You receive information or insights all the time. They are in the form of hunches, inklings or just an inner knowing. You can access that information through your intuition. When you learn to trust your intuition, you will make smarter choices that will support you living an intentional life.
  4. Take responsibility for your results. When you are intentional, it means you are responsible for all aspects of your life. When things don’t go as planned or you don’t get a result you intended, find out why. Your ability to respond differently to the circumstances in your life will help you become a powerful creator.
  5. Be comfortable saying no. When you are clear about the life you want to live, it’s easier to know what to say yes or no to. Saying no to opportunities that may appear attractive, but not aligned to where you want to be, will require discipline. You will need to hold yourself to high standards and keep yourself accountable.

Final Thoughts

Being more intentional about your life will make everything you do a lot easier. To live an intentional life does not mean you need to make drastic changes right away.

Small, consistent actions over a long period will help you eliminate what’s unnecessary and implement things that will get you to where you want to be.
