To crush the day means to:
- Have high levels of clarity on your priorities and have a plan to get them done.
- Eliminate or reduce distractions and interruptions.
- Maintain your energy levels by focusing on your well-being and self-care.
- Always keep the main thing or what’s important front of mind.
- Respond well to unexpected events without losing focus on what needs to get done.
Anyone can crush their day without the need to hustle, work long hours, or experience additional stress.
To win each day, I identify three tasks I want to get done, and I also list three additional tasks I’d like to get done if I have time. I create my plan the evening before and I review it during my first hour of the day as part of my morning rituals.
This simple practice of having a daily plan enables me to have more productive days than unproductive ones.
5 Things You Can Do to Crush the Day
Here are five things you can do to crush the day and make it count, while accomplishing results that will move your life forward.
- Define what crushing the day means to you. Everyone has different standards and expectations for their days. If you don’t know what a winning day is, chances are you won’t achieve it. Ask yourself, “How would I know if today was a great success? What would I need to do or feel at the end of the day?”
- Have a plan your day. Creating structure in your day will give you more freedom. This is because you will know in advance what you can or cannot do. You can create your plan either the day before or at the start of your day.
- Create a winning start-up routine. Productive days don’t just happen. It requires preparation and discipline. Your preparation should include activities that will put you in the right frame of mind to get off to a good start. These can include reviewing your plan, mentally rehearsing how you will approach your activities, and working on one thing at a time.
- Don’t make your day only about work. Life isn’t just about work or accomplishments. Make it a practice to slow down and acknowledge your wins throughout the day. Also, keep what matters most front-of-mind because ultimately, that’s a reason you want to have productive days.
- Make a positive difference in someone’s day. Sometimes, crushing the day may involve supporting someone or doing or saying something encouraging to others. We never really know what someone is going through, therefore a thoughtful gesture or kind words can have a wonderful effect on a person.
