- Are influenced by the opinions of others, especially negative people.
- Overthink things and make situations or challenges harder than they need to be.
- Unwilling to try new things or take risks, which means they do not take productive actions.
The Costs if You Continue to Feel Lost in Life
If you allow yourself to feel lost in life, the dangers include:
- You will question your decisions.
- You will not have a healthy attitude.
- You will have poor mental and emotional health.
- You will have low motivation, which also means low performance.
- You will not achieve things that matter to you.
While it’s common to feel lost at some stage in your life, it’s your responsibility to turn things around, so you can find yourself again.
5 Ways to Find Yourself if You Feel Lost in Life
Here are five steps you can take to find yourself if you feel lost in life, so you can reignite your joy, creativity, passions, and refocus on what’s important.
- Acknowledge how you feel and use it as a sign to pause and reflect. It’s common to judge or criticise yourself for feeling the way you do. A better option is to practice stillness and reflect on what matters to you at this stage of your life. Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?” or “Why am I feeling this way?,” a better question is, “What will cause me to feel how I want to?”
- Recall if you have experienced this way before. If you have, what did you do to turn things around? What process did you go through? If you have not experienced this before, is there anyone you can reach out to who may have gone through something similar? Can you talk to someone trained to help people work through such situations?
- Define the story you want for your life and how you want others to remember you. At the end of the life, how do you want to remember it? If you don’t define a story for your life, you will rely on fate to create one for you. A life well-lived is one that is intentional and defined.
- Do something that lights you up. Taking action will shift your energy and focus. For example, spending time on your hobbies can stimulate your creativity and spark new ideas for things you want to do, experience, or have in life. If you focus on what you’re passionate about, you will feel better and find your true self again.
- Feed your mind with positivity and inspiration. You are not the first person to feel lost and won’t be the last. Find resources that will inspire you. Spend time with people who are making things happen. If you take in new input, your focus and what you want will also change.
Final Thoughts
Feeling lost in life is not a death sentence, nor does it mean you have done something wrong or made bad decisions. Sometimes, it’s okay not to know how life is going to unfold, provided you also acknowledge there will come a time when you will need to change things.
If you feel lost in life, use it as a wake-up call and an opportunity to welcome new possibilities.
Action Step: If you feel lost, give yourself time to ponder what you are being called to look at and improve. View it as an invitation to make changes, so you can improve your life.
