5 Work Habits That Will Make You a Powerful Achiever

Practices You Can Apply to Improve Your Effectiveness and What You Produce

Your work habits affect your effectiveness and what you produce daily. To become a powerful achiever, having useful work habits is essential.

Throughout your workday, there are things you do automatically that impact the quality of your work. If you want to become a consistent performer, knowing the habits you have and those you need to improve or develop, is important.

What Are Work Habits?

Your work habits are behavioural or practical tendencies you have when you carry out your activities. They are repetitive activities you do, without giving them a lot of conscious thought.

If you have good work habits, it means how you operate leads to outcomes you want, without wasted effort.

If you have bad work habits, it means you are not operating as effectively as you could, which can take longer to reach the outcomes you want.

Why Develop Better Work Habits?

Since we are habitual beings, developing better work habits has many benefits. These include:

  • You will be more organised and effective.
  • You will improve your ability to prioritise your activities.
  • You will stretch and grow as a person.
  • You will improve your emotional intelligence.
  • You will progress faster towards your objectives.
  • You will generate more positive emotions, such as satisfaction or happiness.
  • You will be offered opportunities before those who don’t have good work habits.

To achieve more success, you must have a solid foundation of work habits that will automatically lead you to your outcomes.

5 Work Habits That Will Make You a Powerful Achiever

Here are five work habits that will help make you a powerful achiever, so you can reach your goals easier and faster.

  1. Create a productivity system that works for you. There are many productivity systems available. Find one that works for you and stick to it. This can include using a physical or digital planner, using a calendar and having a prioritisation system.
  2. Apply the power of time blocking. Time blocking means allocating chunks of your day to specific tasks. It means scheduling time for your most important tasks first, before doing other things. When you use time blocking, you will improve your ability to focus so you can move forward faster.
  3. Manage your emotions and maintain your energy levels. You cannot maintain a high level of focus if you do not take care of yourself. This means having an active and healthy lifestyle. Taking time out to recharge throughout your workday will keep your energy levels high and allow you to focus well.
  4. Review your performance daily. You cannot improve if you do not measure how you are performing. Having objectives, that are aligned to your projects or goals, will ensure you stay focused on your priorities. Having a system to track your performance will help identify where and how you can improve.
  5. Hold yourself accountable. If someone is depending on you to complete tasks, you will have a higher level of commitment and focus. When you are accountable to someone, you can ask for feedback to increase the outputs you want to produce. Having consequences for not meeting deadlines is also an effective way to achieve your objectives.

Final Thoughts

When you have the right work habits, it will reduce wasted effort and also save you time. Good work habits will also enhance other areas of your life, which means you will be happier and more satisfied.

Your work habits will increase your value to either your employer or your business, and give you the identity of being a powerful achiever.

Action Step: Evaluate your productivity or achievement system. Do you have one that brings the best out of you? If you don’t have one or if you know you can improve how you work, create a system will lead to better work habits and increase what you produce.
