How to Embrace Trouble in Your Life

5 Ideas That Will Help You Stay Mentally Strong During Difficult Times

Everyone will experience highs and lows in their lives, therefore learning to embrace trouble is an advantage.

When you have an unexpected event, how you deal with it depends on your attitude and your mental conditioning.

What Does it Mean to Embrace Trouble?

When something happens that causes discomfort, it’s natural to wish it didn’t happen or things go back to normal.

To embrace trouble means having the awareness you will have hard times in your life. Trouble in this context means problems, difficult situations or challenges.

When you learn to embrace trouble, you know you won’t always get what you want, therefore you will deal with challenges the best way you can.

Examples of trouble can include losing a job, having an unexpected health issue, or experiencing financial difficulties.

It’s often said, “Problems are opportunities in disguise.” Your ability to turn your problems into an opportunity depends on how you respond to them.

Why Do You Need to Learn to Embrace Trouble?

5 Things You Can Do to Embrace Trouble

Your daily experiences depend on your attitude and how you respond when things don’t go your way.

Here are five things you can do to embrace trouble, so you can stay mentally strong whenever you experience tough times.

  1. Accept what you can and cannot change. You cannot control everything in your life. Things will happen that are unplanned and out of your control. Instead of resisting, if you acknowledge what has happened, you won’t give energy to things beyond your control.
  2. Extract the lessons you need to learn. If something bad has happened, there has to be something good about it too. This will require you to shift your perspective and view what you are experiencing from different angles. The lessons you learn will help you deal with your problems better.
  3. Identify the next obvious action you can take. While it’s tempting to do things to change your situation, a better approach is to take the time you need before you act. When you consider things from other points of view, you are more likely to take intelligent actions.
  4. Seek guidance or advice from those who have experienced what you are dealing with. If you have a problem, someone has already experienced it. Reach out to others or find a professional, such as a coach or counsellor, who can assist you. You don’t have to go through a hard time on your own, if you don’t want to.
  5. View your current situation from your future self. It helps to view your situation from the future. This means asking yourself, “How will I view what I am experiencing now in 12 months, three years or five years’ time?” That will help you put things in perspective and not make things worse than they are.

Risks if You Do Not Learn to Embrace Trouble

If you do not learn to embrace trouble, the risks include:

  • You will continue to react to unpleasant events.
  • You will find yourself in similar situations repeatedly.
  • You will not develop self-confidence.
  • You will affect your relationships because of how you deal with things.
  • You will lose focus of what’s important and what you want.

Final Thoughts

Becoming the best version of yourself depends on how you cope with unexpected events in life. If you embrace trouble and see it as an opportunity to learn and grow, you will become a wiser and confident person.

If you lose confidence or have mental clutter and confusion when things are challenging, you will hinder your progress toward your visions and goals in life.

Action Step: If you are experiencing something that is causing you stress, assess how you are handling it. Gauge what you are giving most of your attention to. Use the ideas suggested here, so you can shift your focus to productive thoughts and actions.
