How to Find What Is Driving You

Here are five ways you can find what is driving you, which will help you stay motivated to accomplish things that matter to you.

  1. Identify your personal values. Your values can pull you towards things that are important and push you away from things that don’t matter. Successful people use their values as a form of motivation in their personal life. The clearer you are on your values, the more motivation you’ll have to achieve your life goals.
  2. Set goals that matter to you. Your goals in life give you direction and purpose. If you want positive life outcomes, pay attention to how you pursue your goals. If you easily abandon your goals because of lack of motivation, it often means you have not set the right goals. Having goals that give meaning to your life is necessary on your path to success.
  3. Define what your priorities are. You will always have external motivators and internal motivators. Clarifying your priorities will help keep your motivation level consistent as you carry out your daily tasks. Having intrinsic motivation is more powerful than relying on external motivation.
  4. Reconnect to your passions. Your passions are the natural desire in you to express yourself and find joy in life. If what is driving you in life isn’t aligned to your passions, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment later on. If you find something you’re passionate about, you’re more likely to stay consistent with it.
  5. Harness your strengths. Your strengths make you unique. Not everyone has the same strengths as you, and similarly, you don’t have the same strengths as others. When you know what’s driving you, you can then use your strengths to become the person you want to be or pursue your goals with greater focus. Your strengths will also allow you to develop more of your potential.

Final Thoughts

When you know what is driving you and understand the different types of motivation, that can become your map to success.

Knowing what’s driving you can help you make better choices and take positive steps to reach your goals.

To live a meaningful life, knowing your drivers for motivation will make it easier to stay focused on what you want to accomplish.

Action Step: Allocate up to an hour to determine what is driving you in life. Reflect on the last goal you achieved and what helped you achieve it. Use any insights you receive to make better choices and become a more intentional person.
