5 Keys to Greater Overall Success in All That You Do

One of the great things about us is that we’re programmed for growth, which means we all want to be, do and have more in life.

In the book, The Science of Getting Rich, in the chapter on Increasing Life, Wallace Wattles writes, “Every living thing must continually seek for the enlargement of its life because life — in the mere act of living — must increase itself.”

There is a law of the universe which states that we’re either in a state of growth or decline. Put simply, if we’re not growing, meaning if we’re not actively seeking to be, do or have more in life, it means we’re dying.

For us, dying means accepting or creating the same reality over and over again, or not making progress in life. If we speak to a person, most times we’ll be able to tell if they’re growing as a person or whether they’re content to be where they are in life, which is just another way of saying they’re in a state of decline.

By achieving more, we’ll be able to:

  • Experience or do more in life.
  • Give more to others who are not as fortunate as us.
  • Support others in achieving more.
  • Make a bigger difference or impact in what we do.

This idea of either doing, having or wanting more is not greedy or selfish because it’s part of who we are. Knowing our intention behind wanting more is really important because that will identify whether we’re after personal gain or whether we’re focused on benefiting others as well.

How to achieve success in life

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Andrew Carniege, a Scottish-American Industrialist, was one of the richest people in the world, having made his wealth in the steel industry. He is quoted as saying he spent the first half of his life earning as much money as he could and he spent the second half of his life giving it away.

He was an example of the good that can come from achieving more in life because his legacy still lives on today, almost a hundred years after he passed away.

5 Things That Indicate You Will Achieve More In Life

  1. You are not afraid of failure. Even though we don’t like to fail, oftentimes failure helps us improve and do things better. Failure often provides us valuable feedback on what hasn’t worked so that we can take a new or better approach to achieve what we want.
  2. You embrace the times of struggle but don’t quit. Sometimes, what may appear to be failure is just the process we need to go through to get to our outcome. What a lot of people tend to do is quit during times of struggle, before reaching their objective, which is the real definition of failure — quitting something before we achieve it. Struggle is part of the process to anything valuable or worthwhile in life.
  3. You actually know what you want to achieve in life. Lack of clarity is the biggest reason why people don’t achieve more. If we don’t know what we want, there’s almost no chance we’ll achieve anything meaningful. Knowing our priorities and what we want in life is key to achieving more.
  4. You are prepared to invest in yourself. In order to achieve more, we have to become more. This may mean gaining new knowledge, acquiring new skills or developing new competence. By being willing to invest in ourselves, we’re committing to learning and growing, which will help us achieve more.
  5. You are willing to do what’s required to achieve what you want. The idea of achieving more in life often starts with a desire and a dream, but in order for that to become a reality, we have to consistently take the right actions. Knowing what’s working, what’s not working and how we can improve are part of working smarter and staying focused on our end outcomes.

If we continue to believe in our ability to achieve more and back it up with the right mindset, strategies and tactics, more success in life is possible for us, which means we’ll also achieve more. If we can accept that achieving more in life is actually a good thing, it’s more likely we’ll want to achieve more.

Action Step: Choose one area, whether that’s in your professional or personal life, that you would like to achieve more and reach out to someone for advice or guidance as to what steps you can start taking to achieve it.
