If we learn how to use visualization effectively, we can become powerful achievers and create what we want.

Visualization is used in sports, business and life to reach new or greater levels of success. Yet, it’s not something that’s commonly mentioned when wanting to achieve a new outcome.

What is Visualization?

Visualization is a technique that allows us to see an outcome or goal as already complete, before it is. It’s using the power of our mind, through our imagination, to create mental images of what we want.

It’s creating a movie on the screen of our minds of things we’d like to do, achieve or experience. Each time we visualize, we’re engaging our subconscious mind to make what we’re visualizing come true.

Why Visualization Works?

When we visualize, it creates a gap in our subconscious mind between what we currently have or where we are, and what we’re visualizing. This creates structural tension in our mind.

Whenever there is tension, our mind will seek to resolve it. This means our mind will work on filling the gap between what we have and what we want.

This will show up as greater levels of motivation, better ideas and more creativity, so we can reach what we’re visualizing. We’ll also pay more attention things around us, which may be clues to get us closer to where we want to be.

The Benefits of Visualization

The benefits of visualization include:

  • More inspiration and motivation.
  • Better levels of focus.
  • Higher self-confidence.
  • Enhanced levels of creativity.
  • Better habits or behaviours.
  • Improved skill levels.
  • New ideas or insights to solve problems.
  • Faster achievement of goals or outcomes.
  • Elevated levels of performance.

The more we can harness the power of visualization, the more success we can have.

When Should You Use Visualization?

We can use visualization for many situations such as:

How to Use Visualization to Create What You Want

The process of visualization is simple. It requires practice, which means we have to dedicate time for the process to be effective. Here are the steps you can take to use visualization to become a powerful achiever.

  1. Go somewhere or be in a place where you will not be disturbed.
  2. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relax and feel more grounded.
  3. Set the intention of what you’d like to visualize.
  4. Imagine sitting in a movie theatre and see what you want to do, have, experience or achieve playing out exactly the way you want.
  5. Engage your senses by imagining things you’ll see, hear, smell, taste or touch when everything is working out perfectly.
  6. Feel the feelings you’d have if what you’re visualizing comes true.
  7. Imagine being in the movie and experiencing everything again from within yourself, looking out through your eyes.
  8. Continue to see the movie playing out as long as you need to. This can be for a few seconds or for a few minutes.
  9. Open your eyes and gauge how you’re feeling. Hopefully, you should feel inspired and excited by what you’ve just visualized.
  10. Repeat the process every day.

Every time you visualize what you want, you’ll cause the movie in your mind to become clearer. This will increase the structural tension created, which can speed up the achievement of what you want.

Things That Can Enhance Your Visualization Practice

There are things you can do to add more power to your visualization practice. These include:

  • Creating pictures or visual representations of what you want and placing them where you’ll see them regularly.
  • Creating a positive statement or affirmation of the outcome you want, as if it’s already happening.
  • Doing meditation with visualization.
  • Carrying a symbol that represents the outcome you want so that each time you touch it, the picture you’ve visualized comes onto the screen of your mind.
  • Writing out a description or vision of what your life will be like when what you’re visualizing is your reality.
  • Setting a specific time every day to practice visualization, ideally when you first wake up and just before going to sleep.

Conclusion

Visualization is a mental rehearsal of what’s coming. The more we practice it, the better we’ll become at it.

If we allocate a few minutes a day to this simple practice, we’ll experience new results and create what we want.

Action Step: If visualization is not a daily practice, set a few minutes every day to visualize something you want. If it’s something you do daily, apply the ideas suggested to enhance your visualization practice.

Question: What else can we expect to happen is we learn how to use visualization effectively?
